Cadogan St, Chelsea SW3 2QS

Guest Speakers:

Raymond Friel (best-selling author)

Chris Lubbe (former bodyguard of Nelson Mandela)

On 5th October 2016, in partnership with St Thomas More RC Language College, Chelsea, Redemptorist Publications will be holding a conference to support head teachers, deputies, chaplains, and RE co-ordinators. Alongside an array of essential resources and materials on display, the event will feature fascinating and inspirational talks designed to present ideas and strategies to overcome current challenges for Catholic Schools. Strong leadership is key to the success of Catholic schools in meeting these challenges head-on, and at a time when leadership at the Catholic school requires unprecedented skills in managerial, instructional and spiritual leadership these talks are designed to provide both inspiration and practical guidance.

About the speakers:

Raymond Friel

Raymond is the author of a number of influential books on Catholic education. He was a secondary head teacher in the Catholic maintained sector for 14 years and a National Leader in Education. In September 2016 he became the General Secretary of the Catholic Independent Schools’ Conference and is keen to develop the partnership between the Catholic maintained and independent sectors. Raymond will be sharing key strategies to enhance Catholic ethos through a deeper understanding of gospel values in Catholic schools in the face of new challenges.

Chris Lubbe

Born at a very difficult period in South Africa’s history, Chris made a decision very early in his life to become an activist and oppose the racially based system of ‘apartheid’. This decision was to put him on a direct collision course with the ‘apartheid’ regime which was to result in several spells of incarceration, torture and near death experiences. After Nelson Mandela’s release from prison in 1990 and the subsequent fall of ‘apartheid’ Chris was handpicked by Nelson Mandela to become one of his bodyguards. Chris uses stories from his past to inspire positive change while sharing techniques on overcoming adversity including determination, courage, humanity, responsibility, courage and forgiveness.
